Dynamic Split-Flap Display (Loki Disney+)

Learn to create a dynamic split flap display in Adobe After Effects, based off the motion graphics of Loki from Disney+, that uses a single reference text layer to automatically animate.

Coding Basics - If... Then... Else....

In this episode we look at If... Then... Else... one of the most common conditionals in the world of programming. We look at the different forms it can come in and why it is used so frequently regardless of the programming language.

Easiest Text Swipe Ever

In this tutorial we look at one of the simplest ways to create a text swipe while keeping it dynamic and on one layer. We let a mask expansion value reference the anchor point value of the layer (as both are measured in pixels and transform correctly with the layer) to create the visual, and some simple expressions take care of all the animating in and out. Enjoy!

Dynamic Timeline Slider (Loki Disney+)

I've been loving the visual elements in the new Loki series on Disney+ and it inspired me to recreate some of the visuals in After Effects.

The Wiggle Expression

The wiggle expression may be the first expression in After Effects you learn, but do you actually know how it works? We decode the wiggle expression, explaining the secret heartbeat that makes it work, and how each of its arguments influences its result.

Animating the Dynamic Text Box

Due to popular request here's an explanation as to how I go about animating the dynamic text box. Combine the use of Range Selectors to get a smooth animation that can easily be controlled using keyframes on one layer.

Coding Basics - Variables

In this episode we look at variables. Like algebra, variables are letters that represent a particular value. They can equal any of the common data types we spoke about in the last video, and as we continue to explore programming, variables will constantly be utilised in most of our code and functions.

Coding Basics - Common Data Types

In this episode we look at the most common data types. Whether it's building websites, programming for devices, After Effects expressions etc, data types are the way we differentiate between text and numbers, true or false from lists; and save those values appropriately.

Manipulating Time

Speed up or slow down footage with this simple expression that enables you to easily manipulate the time of your layers. It also works with Compositions as well, perfect for easily dropping in lower thirds and making them fit your timeline.

Dynamic Text Box

Learn in 10 min how to create a dynamic text box that changes size automatically to the text, on one text layer without complex expressions with any font, in Adobe After Effects.

Progress Bars

Want to progress in your After Effects skills? Now you can visualise that progression as we learn how to create progress bars in Adobe After Effects.

The Linear Expression

Delve into the Linear Expression, a powerful tool that will speed up your approach to animating in After Effects.
